National Nature Reserves Visitor Experience and Community Engagement Lead Adviser
What employment sector do you work in?
Please describe the work that you do.
My role is all about improving what our sites can offer to help better connect people with nature. This includes organising and hosting events such as guided butterfly walks, bat walks and botany bingo, and also improving visitors’ experience on site, which covers signage, infrastructure and ensuring we can make an offer to different user groups (such as people with disabilities, those from low-income households and of various ethnicities). My job is to share what is so special about these reserves and offer the opportunity for everyone to access them safely to connect with nature.
I also offer opportunities as part of green social prescribing – doing guided walks for people with cancer to give them a chance to connect with others in the same situation and be able to have a bit of a distraction from an otherwise extremely stressful and turbulent time in their lives.
