Please describe the work that you do.

I work on By-Weirs , Sluices , lock Gates , Flood Defence Gates , Pumping Stations , Reservoir Systems / Flood Control Systems, Bridges , Sector Gates , Penstock Gates all of this within , inshore and also just off the Thames. My job role consists of working with Hydraulics / Mechanical / Pneumatic’s and Electrical Panels and Systems with an Electrical bias we help in providing PPM Services , Emergency Repairs, Reactive Work and also Scheduled Inspections.

What do you most like about your job? Any dislikes?

I love a lot of things regarding my job , I get to be amongst nature I feel very free. I am able to use my skills to help the environment I also feel valued at my place of work knowing that what I do helps to benefit our cause. My job is very unique and I also get to be myself. Each day is a different day and that’s something that I really like.

What inspired you into this career? 

What really inspired me to get into this career is one my love for nature and also two the skills that I have and being able to fuse the two together. That was the real deal.

Have you faced any challenges in progressing your career so far? 

Definitely, I think that there is moments where you will face problems and issues in career progression. I’ve had those battles feelings such as your best not being your best or that you don’t feel that you are not doing enough. But one thing that keeps me going is having a positive attitude, especially when it comes to learning and adapting and also making the necessary changes to build yourself in your career.

What advice would you give to someone coming into the profession? 

The advice that I would give is to really be yourself & have a passion for being involved with nature & the environment & being able to help out in a cause, especially one that is going to benefit with improving nature & being around the environment. Never to sell yourself short & hold yourself in good stead. Be creative & have a positive mindset and attitude & to be really determined to do your best. To keep on networking as so many doors will open for you so be ready to seize the opportunity.
