Please describe the work that you do.
As an ecologist in the bid support team, I liaise with clients to understand project needs, prepare accurate quotes, and ensure proposals meet technical and commercial requirements. I work closely with project managers to scope survey effort, resources, and timelines, and contribute ecological expertise to bids. My role combines client liaison, technical input, and coordination to deliver high-quality, competitive submissions.
What do you most like about your job? Any dislikes?
What I enjoy most about my job is being part of an amazing and supportive bid support team, where collaboration and encouragement are at the heart of everything we do. I really appreciate how the business itself fosters a positive and inclusive culture, making it easy to contribute ideas, develop professionally, and feel valued. The combination of working with talented colleagues and being in a company that genuinely supports its staff makes the role both rewarding and motivating.
What inspired you into this career?
I’ve always been interested in animals and the environment, and from an early age I knew I wanted to work in this sector. This passion for understanding and protecting the natural world has driven me to pursue a career where I can contribute to conservation and help safeguard biodiversity for the future.
Have you faced any challenges in progressing your career so far?
No.

Degree:
BSc (Hons) Environmental Conservation
MSc (Biodiversity Conservation)
Courses:
Advanced Barn Owl Surveying and Mitigation (Barn Owl Trust)

What advice would you give to someone coming into the profession?
My advice to someone starting out as an ecologist would be to gain as much practical experience as possible alongside your studies, whether through volunteering, seasonal survey work, or placements. These opportunities not only build your skills but also help you decide which areas of ecology you enjoy most. I’d also recommend developing strong report writing and communication skills, as these are just as important as fieldwork.
