My main role works around the recording, formatting and presentation of ecological data/reports/advice. The work resides in and around government owned land within the district as well as external landowners, also administering environmental grants.

What do you most like about your job? Any dislikes?

I love working towards increasing an area’s biodiversity and help employ sensitive land management techniques.

The main challenge is working with stakeholders who do not see the importance of ecological work – this does in face provide a great opportunity for education!

What inspired you into this career?

Growing up on a private estate and farmland gave me a massive appreciation for wildlife and conservation, a field my parents also work in.

Have you faced any challenges in progressing your career so far?

Not as of yet.

What education/training did you have?

Lots of hours in voluntary roles!!! I can’t stress enough how much this can help boost your experiences in the field.

I also have 10 GCSEs, 3 A-levels and a BSc (Hons) in Marine and Terrestrial Conservation.

What advice would you give to someone coming into the profession?

Sometimes a few opposing voices might shout the loudest, remember, we are working for things that do not have a voice at all.
