Jack Diprose
What employment sector do you work in?
Public Sector
How long have you had a green job for nature?
4 years
Salary Range
£25,001 – £30,000
Please describe the work that you do.
Help to manage a planted ancient woodland site for recreation and conservation. My job involves supervising a team of craftspeople, completing maintenance tasks, carrying out tree work, inspecting and maintaining trails, and various conservation related tasks such as habitat management and improvement.
What do you most like about your job? Any dislikes?
I enjoy carrying out conservation tasks most. Dislike having to deal with litter and fly tips although it feels good to keep our forest ‘tidy’ for people and nature.
What inspired you into this career?
Being brought up around nature and preferring outdoors to indoors.
Have you faced any challenges in progressing your career so far?
Not really, have been lucky with opportunities and am currently happy where I am.
What education/training did you have?
Nothing related to my role. I have received lots of training in the past 4 years. Before that I had some A levels completely unrelated to my role.
What advice would you give to someone coming into the profession?
Get experience through volunteering. Be passionate about nature and the outdoors. Read books, listen to podcasts, learn the names of plants and animals.
