Please describe the work that you do.

I’m currently on assignment as an eMissions2030 Data Reporting Technical Officer within the Net Zero and Circular Economy team in the Sustainable Business team. My work involves gathering and compiling data for eMissions2030 corporate reporting.

What do you most like about your job? Any dislikes? 

I have found work life at the EA (Environment Agency) to be very supportive and welcoming. In my team, I always feel heard and communication with people in my team is always open and easy. I also receive a lot of encouragement and support to further my personal development and career progression. It is also great to be surrounded by likeminded people who are just as passionate about sustainability and tackling the climate crisis.

What inspired you into this career? 

During my year abroad in Vienna, I got the opportunity to focus on Sustainability and the UN Sustainable Development Goals where my interest in sustainability and climate justice grew. After university, I joined the EA because I saw an opportunity to explore my interest in climate action and understand more about the EA’s response to the climate emergency.

Have you faced any challenges in progressing your career so far? 

While my team has been very patient and understanding, I have found that not coming from a STEM background has presented some challenges as it usually takes me a lot longer to understand the technical side of some of the work we do.

What education/training did you have?

I studied Law at Aberdeen University and have recently been learning Python.

What advice would you give to someone coming into the profession? 

I have found it useful to be as open minded as possible and take every experience I get as an opportunity to learn and develop.
