How long have you had a green job for nature?

3.5 years

Salary Range

£30,001 – £40,000

Please describe the work that you do.

As a project coordinator for the Ecology team, I plan surveys for projects and match specific ecologists with the appropriate competencies to conduct these surveys and then arrange land access, compile risk assessments, and manage the health and safety aspects of their surveys. I write contracts for sub-contractors we may outsource some work to and I serve as a survey second.

What do you most like about your job? Any dislikes?

I truly enjoy being part of this team because of the diverse field we work in and the travel opportunities it provides throughout England and Wales. It also allows me to deepen my knowledge of hobbies I’ve pursued for many years. I don’t have any significant dislikes, except when I’m working on something unfamiliar. Fortunately, my wonderful colleagues are always ready to offer support when needed.

What inspired you into this career?

A friend of mine worked here for many years before I joined and often told me how much I would enjoy the work she did. When an opportunity arose, she recommended me for the position, and I am very grateful for that.

Have you faced any challenges in progressing your career so far?

In addition to my hobbies, I transitioned into a completely new industry and had to learn everything from scratch while working. Although I initially faced challenges with certain tasks, perseverance enabled me to overcome them. Despite the initial difficulties, I am now well-settled and thoroughly enjoying my role.

What education/training did you have?

Nothing

What advice would you give to someone coming into the profession?

If this is something you truly desire, keep pushing forward and stay persistent. It will be worth it in the end.
