Please describe the work that you do.
Strategic ecology. Seeing what ecologists don’t see in their work – I.e. the potential for enhancement for people and wildlife. Thinking bigger picture – strategy, Lawton’s principles, landscape character, restoration, creation, land use change. Working with developers, collaboratively, enabling non-ecologists to think about the ecology of their own profession, being an advocate, inspiring, engaging, a critical friend.
What do you most like about your job? Any dislikes?
Collaboration across disciplines, being creative, being positive, working at scale.
What inspired you into this career?
Being frustrated with the lack of ecological design within landscape architecture.
Being frustrated with the lack of design and large-scale habitat creation in ecological consultancy.
Being frustrated with methodic tick box ticking in ecology.
Being frustrated in the lack of collaboration between these two disciplines.
Have you faced any challenges in progressing your career so far?
Not really.
What education/training did you have?
Landscape Architecture and Ecology.
What advice would you give to someone coming into the profession?
Always ask the question that makes you feel butterflies in your stomach.
